Why are large companies and recruitment agencies obsessed with making staff do a urine test? Is it just for the value of the humiliation?

We don’t test mortgage brokers or stock traders for cocaine, but since I’m poor I have to piss in a cup with someone watching?

Weird how it costs the same for a saliva swab test, yet employers don’t offer this even when I request it:

I’ve never smoked weed in my life. I want to find a job again but all the jobs are highly stressful and sometimes they’re based a long distance from where I live. If companies offered easier hours and better pay then their staff would be less likely to use drugs as a coping mechanism.

Personally I’m not worried about failing a drugs test because that’s impossible for me. My concern is that I have to wait around for 3+ hours just to urinate, when it would be quicker and more comfortable to have a saliva swab (oral fluid test) because that could be done in 10 minutes instead of 3 hours.

I’m not going to urinate on their command and I’m not going to drink 3 litres (1 gallon) of water because they told me to. I’m not comfortable with any of this and I’m not going to do it.

“but we’ll cut your social welfare”

Yeah whatever. In 2012 the National Party was in government here in New Zealand and they threatened to do random “drug screening” (urine tests) for people on social welfare. Guess what, it never happened lol. Just like they said they’d kick out the Russian ambassador, which they never did, because they knew in the end they’d have to beg for him to return. It’s just rhetoric.

Every election year, we hear the same thing. Boomers and Gen X “conservative voters” out in force, demanding that the poor don’t do drugs (we did drugs in the 60s and 70s and it was terrible, don’t even experiment with drugs as a teenager, you’ll become addicted!!!1)

Never mind… I actually don’t worry about it that much as I can visit my doctor and just stay on social welfare with very little pressure to look for work. There aren’t any jobs anyway except the crap ones that people quit every 5-18 months. You know why so many people smoke weed? Because it’s an easy way to relax after a stressful or boring week of grinding away for nothing.
